A Romanian man wanted in his home country for assault, battery and forcible entry was yesterday remanded in custody as extradition proceedings against him started.
Stefan Predescu, 25, from Galati, earned a living distributing flyers for clubs and bars in Paceville.
Police Inspector Mario Cuschieri, who is also a lawyer, told Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna that Mr Predescu was arrested in connection with a theft investigation and then realised that he was a wanted man.
Lawyer Roberto Montalto said his client was not consenting to his extradition yet.
The magistrate noted that the proceedings had to be concluded within 30 days and then issue an extradition order.
