The Chamber of Architects and Civil Engineers is to hold a presentation on the architectural characteristics of the Corinthia Hotel London as part of its Architecture Nights and Civil Engineering Encounters events tomorrow.

The event will bring together local professionals and the international team that restored the building housing the recently-opened hotel.  They will discuss the challenges of turning this old, milestone building into a modern, flagship hotel.

Corinthia Hotel London is sited on a triangular site on the corner of Northumberland Avenue, a short walk from Whitehall and Trafalgar Square.

Built on the site of the Metropole Hotel and the adjoining 10 Whitehall Place, the project required innovative design to overcome problems associated with pre-developed city sites. During the construction, novel engineering solutions were developed and employed to meet the unique design specification.

Tomorrow's event, which will be open to the public, will be held at 6 p.m. at the Corinthia Hotel, St. George's Bay, St Julians. Speakers will include Corinthia CEO Simon Naudi who will address the tendering, acquisition and planning of the Corinthia London project; Chris Edwards, who will speak on the contracts, phasing, project risk and problem solving aspects of the build; Ian Flewitt on the problems of developing the site and techniques used to enhance space and Edward Davies who will use photographs and drawings to illustrate the interior architecture and design of the hotel.
