Over the weekend, Marsa entertained new touring team Pimlico Stollers for a two-game series.

On Saturday, the hosts won the toss and elected to bat first with Nowell Khosla and Malcolm Crabbe the openers at the crease.

Crabbe was first to go, getting a bottom edge and the ball falling into the stumps. He had scored five runs.

Tony Azzopardi was next man in. He scored 25 runs before being stumped. Andy Naudi joined Khosla and together they produced a match-winning partnership of 79 runs.

Khosla was caught after 60 runs which included four 4s. Naudi had a team’s best of 89, his tally including ten 4s. Sam Aquilina added four runs, Sunny Krishna three and Joy Ghoseroy 17. Aided with 21 extras, the home team totalled 224 from their 40 overs.

For Pimlico, S. Boughey claimed three wickets.

At the break, the rain lashed down heavily at the oval. The second innings was reduced to 30 overs and the target revised to 169 for Pimlico to win the match.

In the end, the visitors could only manage 128 with S. Fowler hitting 42, M. Morgan 25 and T. Sturm 22.

Pimlico batted first on Sunday in a 20-over encounter and totalled 103 runs. Sturm was their main scorer with 31 as C. Deavin chipped in with 12 and D. Couldrey 11.

Marsa struggled to keep up with the run rate until the 17th over when 22 runs were won which paved the way for their win.

Mark G. Sacco opened and almost batted through to victory with 31 runs. Frank Spiteri top-scored with a fine 34.

The 20-Over League begins next weekend with Marsa playing Krishna at 9.45 a.m. Marsa will then face the HMS St Albans team in a 20-over game at 1.30 p.m.
