A 42-year-old man from Vittoriosa this morning pleaded not guilty to attempting to murder two Romanians on St Rita Steps in Paceville, last Saturday.
Joseph Buhagiar was also charged with seriously injuring both men, carrying what is believed to be a flick knife, breaching the peace and threatening the women who were with the victims.
Mr Buhagiar was accused of stabbing the men with what is believed to be a flick knife during a fight that broke out on the steps. One of the Romanians suffered eight stab wounds, one of them close to his heart.
Lawyer Arthur Azzopardi did not request bail and asked for his client to be assessed psychihe his client should be kept in prison or at Mount Carmel Hospital.
Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani sent a request to the Prisons' Director for Mr Buhagiar to be evaluated.
