Legionella bacteria was found in part of the water system at Boffa Hospital during a routine investigation by the Environmental Health authorities, the Health Ministry said.
Legionella bacteria causes Legionnaires' disease, which results in a lung infection or pneumonia. It is not contagious.
The ministry said that the necessary precautions were taken immediately and the part of the system where the bacterium was found was immediately closed down.
The whole system was then treated even though the contamination was found in just a part of it.
Water samples are to be taken in the coming days.
