The number of people registered as employed in June increased by 2.1 per cent when compared to the corresponding month last year, the National Statistics Office said.
It said that records provided by the Employment and Training Corporation showed that the full-time employed in June amounted to 149,331. There were 6,212 registered unemployed, a decrease of 8.3 per cent.
Full-time employment for June increased by 3,112 individuals when compared to the comparative month last year.
The highest increase was recorded in the health and social work sector which rose by 896. The real estate, renting and business activities and manufacturing also showed increases of 831 and 544 persons, respectively.
On the other hand, employment in construction and in transport, storage and communication activities showed decreases of 116 and 68 people, respectively.
Employment within the private sector accounted for 72.4 per cent of total full-time employment for the period under review. Employment within the private sector increased by 2.3 per cent over June 2010.
The highest shares of employment within the private sector were in real estate, renting and business activities and other community, social and personal services activiites, both of which increased by 871 and 667 people, respectively.
Full-timers working within the public sector amounted to 41,187, an increase of 1.6 per cent over June last year. Increases in employment were recorded in health and social work - 10 per cent, and education - 2.2 per cent.
In June, the number of people registered as self-employed stood at 17,585, a decrease of 0.1 per cent over the corresponding period in 2010. The number of employees increased by 2.4 per cent to 131,746.
During the same period, an increase in female employment of 2,568 was recorded over last year.
The total number of part-time employed in June increased by 3.9 per cent over the previous year, reaching a total of 53,051. The number of part-timers also hold a full-time job increased by 5.2 per cent, with the majority being males.
The number of persons whose part-time work is their primary job went up by 3 per cent.
