Cash-conscious holidaymakers are taking more trips at off-peak times so they do not miss out on annual breaks, according to a survey.
As many as a quarter of Britons have been on holiday out of season in the past three years, the poll by lastminute.com found.
And 28 per cent said they would be willing to miss out on hot weather by going at off-peak times to save money.
Of the out-of-season travellers, 43 per cent said they went off-peak to save money, with 27 per cent doing so to avoid the crowds and 21 per cent wishing to get away from the extreme-heat times.
The poll of 2,058 adults also showed that 25 per cent would be willing to compromise on the quality of the airline, while 23 per cent were happy to travel to destinations where the days were short.
In addition, 23 per cent were prepared to go as far as to settle for fewer activities and amenities when going on an out-of-season holiday.
Lastminute.com’s UK and Ireland managing director Mark Maddock said: “There are always ways to get away without spending beyond our means.”
