Drop in industrial production

Industrial production fell by more than three per cent in September over the corresponding month last year, according to provisional data released by the National Statistics Office.

The drop for intermediate goods was 7.7 per cent while capital and consumer goods fell 1.1 and 1 per cent respectively. On the other hand, energy production rose by 6.3 per cent.

The manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products dropped by 11 per cent.

Other declines were seen in food manufacture and textiles, manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations and repair and installation of machinery and equipment.

Conversely, the manufacture of clothing, rubber and plastic products, electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply and water treatment saw notable increases when compared to the corresponding month in 2010.
