€50m to be spent on the roads
The roads will absorb €50 million of the government’s Budget next year.
Finance minister Tonio Fenech in the Budget speech this year did not announce any new projects but said the works will be focused on the road to Valletta waterfront in Marsa; Council of Europe Road and Garibaldi Road in Luqa, Marfa Road in Melieha and the Xewkija to Victoria Road in Gozo, all of which are already progress, the December 13 Road underpass and the Ta’ Pennellu bypass in Mellieha.
Works will also be carried out on 140 residential roads with an investment of €7 million.
Local councils are to allocated €1.4 million for public-private partnerships on road-building.

Clearly not enough. There are too many vehicles in Malta, so the only way to control the situation is to significantly raise taxation on private transport.

Hope from these 50million will find some money to make proper cycle lanes, not as is the state now where one must cycle crammed in barely 2ft of the road, usually being the worst part full of bumps, holes and of irregular level (especially if there are drain holes), with trees branches obstructing the way, etc. etc.
