The Blood Bank's appeal yesterday led to 300 bags being donated between yesterday and today, mitigating but not solving the problem.

The bank said in a statement this evening it aimed to collect at last another 400 bags in the coming days for the reserve to reach the desired levels, putting patients' minds at rest.

The bank urged people who are healthy to donate blood at the Blood Bank next to St Luke's Hospital in Guardamangia between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. The bank is open daily, including on Sundays and public holidays.

Donors have to be in possession of their identity card.
