Last week the Parliamentary Secretary for the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority announced the reduction in price of 15 medicines.
These are mainly used to treat conditions such as hayfever, glaucoma, depression, Hepatitis A, and problems related to the immune system. A total of 176 medicines have had their prices reduced over the past 18 months.
The reduced medicinal prices reflect the average price of these medicines in European countries. The reduced prices apply to medicines bought by pharmacies at the new price. This means that old stock may still be sold at the old price.
Inspectors from the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority will be on the look out to ensure that medicines are sold according to the advertised prices.
