On November 27, pianist Tony Sammut and his younger brother double-bass player Simon will be presenting an interesting hour of jazz music.

Tony and Simon come from a very musical background. Their father is veteran orchestra director and composer Joseph Sammut.

Simon studied piano for many years and at 13 started double-bass lessons with his father. He is now very busy as an established performer in various genres including rock, blues, soul and funk.

The common love of jazz often brings the brothers together and they often enjoy recording their own material in their studio.

Tony studied piano for many years and started out with The Boys in the 1970s.

He quickly established himself as a sought after pianist as well as accompanist, performed in several local clubs with leading bands and has also performed in various genres abroad, including the UK, Netherlands and Germany.

He is also a song-writer and lately has concentrated more on jazz. He is deeply inspired by Keith Jarrett, Bill Evans and Herbie Hancock while Simon’s inspiration lies mainly with Larry Graham, Jaco Pastorius, Francis Rocco Prestia, James Jamerson and Verdine White.

The concert programme in- cludes works by Bronislav Kaper, Gene de Paul, Wes Montgomery, Herbie Hancock, Hank Mobley, Thelonius Monk, Joe Sample and Chopin. It is a feast of sentimentality, technique, improvisation and spontaneity.

Entrance by €5 donation is in aid of the St Catherine of Italy Church Restoration Fund.

The performance will take place in the Music Room at St James Cavalier, Valletta, at 11 a.m.
