Sliema set sights on renowned Croats
Frano Vican... a stalwart in goal for Croatia.
It is understood that Sliema ASC are busy seeking the services of two foreigners of fame who they hope will be able to put their team back on a winning trail next season as far as the main local honours are concerned.
Rumours are rife that both Rajmund Fodor and Bogdan Rath will not be re-engaged and will be replaced by two Croatians, Pavo Markovic and goalkeeper Frano Vican, both long-serving players in their national team.
However, the possible option for a goalkeeper will have to be assessed by the Għar id-Dud team’s mentors since such a choice, while strengthening their rearguard in a vital position between the sticks, will obviously weaken their outfield and thus the team’s scoring potential.
Vican, 35, is one of the most experienced goalkeepers on the international circuit, having won well over 120 caps for his country and represented his national team’s colours in the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games, as well as being part of the Croatia national team, winners of the 2007 world championship.
The second foreign player being mentioned is Pavo Markovic, who also formed part of the triumphant 2007 Croatian outfit, winners in the final against Hungary courtesy of his two goals in extra-time.

If this is true Neptunes can counteract this be re engaging Molnar and getting a very good shooter! Stevie and said good shooter would win the title again for Neptunes!

Wise decision, but another 2 more players are badly needed to strengthen the Sliema side maybe the Maltese Australians who have played before with Sliema would be the solution.
