Marsaxlokk players this morning informed the media about the problems at their club and the difficulties they were facing.

Captain Carlo Mamo told a news conference their coach Winston Muscat resigned about two weeks ago and they were currently training without a coach.

Mr Mamo said they were going into matches not knowing what would happen to a player if he got injured because they did not have insurance cover.

For their game against Hamrun last weekend, they did not even have a physiotherapist, he said.

The players were frustrated and they had informed the Malta Football Association about the situation and asked it to take measures to safeguard their interest.

One of their proposals  wasfor the MFA to give the club permission to move players to other clubs outside the transfer window.

According to FIFA regulations, this decision is at the discretion of the MFA.

Mr Mamo said Marsaxlokk players considered not turning up for tomorrow's game against Valletta but after talks with the club's committee, who were doing their best to solve the problems, and the MFA, they decided not to take that course of action.

The club, Mr Mamo said, was also facing serious financial difficulties and most of the players had not been paid for the past few months.

The players would evaluate the situation again next week and were not ruling out taking strike action if things did not improve.

Most of the club's senior players were present for the press conference.
