Like John Carmel Navarro (Tradition Still Flies High On National Flag, November 8) I used to give the last line of my ad-dress here as “Malta, GC”, as a sign of sincere respect for the generation that endured the war on these islands. The problem is that postal workers around the world don’t understand what it means. Mr Navarro mentions that one letter posted in the UK eventually reached him via some unnamed Spanish island.
I have had two from America where the address had been understood to mean Gold Coast. And one redirected from Palestine marked “Not Gaza”.
It’s a sign, is it not, of how wonderfully the government and successive ministers of tourism have succeeded in putting Malta and Gozo on the map.
