‘False passport’ for wedding

An illegal immigrant who allegedly used a false Nigerian passport in a civil wedding ceremony yesterday denied the charge.

Emmydion Nwachukwu, 22, residing in Marsascala, who was accompanied by his new Maltese wife, denied using the passport and making a false declaration on November 8.

He was found out when he allegedly presented a false passport to authorities as he prepared the documents to get married, police sources said.

Mr Nwachukwu has been in Malta since 2006 and works as a handyman at a home for the elderly. He is due to get married again in a religious service on November 20.

He was granted bail against a personal guarantee of €10,000 and a deposit of €500.
