These magnificent men and their flying machines

Models in static and organised flying displays came together over the weekend for the 17th edition of the Malta Model Aircraft Flying Association.

Among the participants were the 2nd Regiment, Air Squadron, AFM, the Island Microlight Club, The Malta Flying School and the Aviation Museum.

Wings Over Ta’ Qali, the association’s main event, was opened by the Parliamentary Secretary for Youth and Sport, Clype Puli, on Saturday.

Among the activities over the weekend was a rescue simulation by the AFM and the flying of 3D aircraft and aerobatic models.

Wings Over Ta’ Qali included a flying display by a turbine-powered model aircraft and model helicopters, as well as a simulated air attack on the control tower.

The association, which has been around for 50 years, aims to foster friendship and understanding between model aircraft enthusiasts.

It also hopes to promote interest in aviation, especially the acquisition of a deeper knowledge on the physics of flights, model aircraft engines, electronics and the operation of radio-controlled equipment.
