Carla and her parents
A few days ago, the media was focused on the day-oldbaby Carla. Various comments pictured the parent/s in a negative way. In my opinion, the decision of leaving the baby in front of the convent was much better than having an abortion!
God bless the baby and her parents.

There is no reason why the child involved should not have a happy life. It will not be the first to be abandoned by its parents - and let's remember nobody actually knows why the mother chose to leave her baby at the convent.
I pity Peter Murray for his comments.

Whoever Carla's parents were, they cared enough about her wellbeing to place her in the right place at the right time. We will probably never know the reasons they did what they did, and do we really need to ? Carla is being well cared for and will be adopted, following the necessary procedures. Abortion, on the other hand, absolutely refuses this happiness for the child. I was once actually told by a woman who had had an abortion "if I could not enjoy her, nobody else was going to". Abortion is selfishness on a breathtaking scale unless it is absolutely necessary for medical reasons.

Dear Ms Soler,
All we need to know is why did they create a child they knew they couldn't care for or afford or look after and given this what precisely is your definition then of selfish? Also "happiness for the child"-as when the child grows up and finds out her birth parents didn't want her-then pure unbridled joy will surely follow won't it?

Dear Peter Murray,
You ask why they created a child they did not want. Quite frankly, that is none of your business unless you are the bedroom police.
You are clutching at straws to advocate your views that run contrary to those of pro-life persons.

You Malthusian philosophy, that the world is about to break in half because there are so many people has been discredited time and time again.
There currently is enough wealth and food in this world to feed the entire planet twice over. The problem is that you live in the west and like the majority; you may be unwilling to admit that what is really under threat is your comfy lifestyle.
A little babe that wants to be loved is not a burden on society. These situations are not inconveniences but opportunities for humanity to grow in the only value that really means anything when all is said and done – Love.

Peter Murray - all children are wanted by someone. Just because they may not be wanted by their parents does not make them lesser beings.
All children have a right to be loved and not to be condemned and to be cut up in their mother's womb.
You need to be your priorities straight.
You are being rather intolerant towards these younger persons and their rights.

Mr Murray, please respect other's opinions and stop resorting to your anti opinion by attacking others. The baby is living and is healthy and there are many Maltese would love to adopt her. So it's a win win situation.

I totally agree with Oliver Mallia...The parents need compassion as this must have been the hardest decision they ever had to make..and they did not 'dump' her as some journalists wrote...They left her in a place where they knew she would find the care and love that maybe they could not give. They saved her life...and when Carla grows older, she should be taught to be proud of her parents..because they did what they did out of love! God bless her and her parents!

Dear Oliver,
I will defend your right to an opinion and will not resort to attacking your views and principles on a personal basis as is the want of many. However, how do you propose to view this situation in a "positive way" and this poor child's biological parents (now with loving, but possibly temporary, adopting parents) need their God's guidance not blessing .So then why not keep on bringing unwanted (and for whatever reasons this child was abandoned it nevertheless could not be cared for by the parents) children into an already over-populated world, and I at first wondered was this wee lassie was of Indian origin as this scenario is what happens to a lot of baby girls there simply because of the archaic dowry system.Bringing additional children into the world that are unable or unwilling to cared for cannot be condoned or approved and ,in any event similar to policies in China ,the world will soon reach population saturation point and then such irresponsibility will eventually be controlled on a worldwide basis.
