A cold reception in store for councillors
Prior to the last council election in Paola I was approached by members from both parties canvassing for my vote. I and other residents in our street brought to their attention a problem we face. Our street is next to the Galleria Shopping Complex and the huge influx of people makes it very hard for us to find parking space. I know that parking is a problem all over Malta but ours is a special case.
The prospective councillors all promised their help. After the election we even presented a petition to the council. Needless to say, since then not one councillor has come near us.
Other councils have fought for their residents and acquired residents-only parking. Things have only become worse due to the popularity of the complex. It’s even worse on weekends, with warehouse sales, children’s cinema days, etc.
All we asked for was for the council to genuinely fight for us to get some parking spots reserved for residents. I hope that when the next election is due no one from the council comes knocking on my door because they will get a very cold reception.

What is amusing about this piece is that you appear genuinely surprised with this behaviour by prospective councillors before and after an election-as what universe have you been inhabiting! Also on what grounds should you and your fellow residents close to this Shopping Mall be considered as to why are you all a "special case"?
