Horse Racing: Goldikova’s bid to cap her career with an historic fourth straight Breeders’ Cup Mile triumph was undone on Saturday as 64-1 shot Court Vision seized the victory in Kentucky. Court Vision beat Turallure by a nose in a frantic finish. Goldikova was third, her position standing despite an objection after the six-year-old French superstar, under jockey Olivier Peslier, appeared to impede another horse.
Boxing: Lucian Bute kept his undefeated record intact with a one-sided victory over Glen Johnson in an IBF super-middleweight title fight in Quebec City on Saturday. The 31-year-old Bute improved 30-0 and made the 10th defence of the title he won in 2007. Two of the three judges gave the Romanian all 12 rounds and he lost just one round on the other judge’s scorecard in front of a crowd of 15,306.
Golf: Tour chiefs condemned outspoken caddy Steve Williams after his racial slur about former boss Tiger Woods but said that they would not be taking further action and the matter was now closed. Anti-racism groups have called on Williams, who is now the caddy for rising Australian star Adam Scott, to be censured as the furore threatens to envelope the sport. Ironically, Scott will partner Woods at the Australian Open this week, meaning Williams and his estranged former boss will come face-to-face on the greens.
Tennis: Tomas Berdych has not sealed his spot at the season-ending World Tour Finals after men’s tennis governing body the ATP admitted they had made a mistake by saying he had qualified. The 26-year-old remains well-placed along with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Mardy Fish to fill the remaining three spots in the eight player field.
