The biggest problem is that anyone can walk in and out of the area without anyone knowing who they are or why they’re there. We need to make the campus more secure, and for that we should have more security guards, and also more CCTV surveillance. Some might say it’s an invasion of privacy, but at this point, CCTV cameras are everywhere, so we may as well have them at the University. Michaela Zahra, B.Com, 1st year.
I often have to leave University quite late in the evening due to lectures, and it’s true that I don’t feel very safe walking around campus, especially as a young woman. There should definitely be a greater security presence, particularly at night, and more CCTV cameras around the campus would also help. Martina Borg, BA (Hons) English, 2nd year.
I think the recent attacks on cats at the University show that the campus isn’t safe enough. To a certain extent, it’s difficult for anyone to feel truly safe. Buildings are already locked at night, but maybe the whole area should be gated and closed at night to make sure nobody can come in without authorisation. Regular police patrols might also help the situation. Luke Farrugia, BA (Hons) English, 2nd year.
