A 40-foor sailing yacht, the Wraith, was damaged when it was involved in collision with the Panamian-flagged tanker Sarah Glory off Malta this evening.
The incident happened some 20 nautical miles North East of Valletta at about 6 p.m.
The yacht started taking in water but the situation was controlled by on-board pumps. It also lost its anchor and chain. The tanker turned around and gave assistance. A British couple who were on board the yacht were not injured.
The two vessels maintained radio contact with Malta Radio while an AFM Kingair aircraft remained in the area for some two hours.
Another sailing yacht, a trimaran, was located by the Kingair and directed to assist. The damaged yacht, however, opted to head for Ragusa.
