Just a trickle of rain and Carmel Street in Birkirkara, between Bwieraq Street and Brared Street, becomes totally flooded by water gushing from the side streets. Residents cannot cross the street as even the pavement is covered with water, flooding the street; one is even afraid to go out because of the speed at which the water comes gushing down the street.

We are not speaking of Valley Road in Birkirkara but Carmel Street, which last May was entirely dug up for drainage and water works and where new tarmac was laid; unfortunately apart from the fact that the level of this part of the street was lowered and not properly aligned, the rainwater system was  forgotten.

One should see the sorry state this street is in when we get even just a drizzle of rain: one can see water still flowing down hours after the rain has stopped. It seems no one thought of at least putting water culverts and align the street as it should be while works were being carried out.

This is the sorry state which residents of this part of Carmel Street have to cope with throughout the winter months due to bad planning, and remedial action should be taken without delay.
