Raffles, the dog, was yesterday helping out his owner, Margaret Joynes and her partner, Colin Buckle, a former major in the British Army, as they collected funds for the Malta Poppy Appeal in Valletta.
The funds, they pointed out, would remain in Malta to provide financial, social and emotional support to war victims and their dependents. Last year, €21,000 were collected and more than €60,000 were issued in assistance, the balance being supplied from other Services Benevolent Funds in the UK.
Volunteers will be collecting money in Valletta and other localities right up to Remembrance Day on November 11.
