The hospital authorities have issued a circular to consultants and other staff urging them to raise hygiene practices in order to avoid a further spread of Klebsiella Pneumoniae, which is resistant to antibiotics.
Informed sources said a number of cases have been identified in ITU and a number of precautions are being taken, including restricting the number of visitors.
Medical staff have been told to wear aprons, and to replace them after visiting each patient.
The bacterium can cause various forms of infections including pneumonia and surgical site infections. It is normally found in human intestines.
12 cases have been reported so far, informed sources said.
