I cannot bring myself to believe that Minister Austin Gatt had offered his resignation a month ago and the Prime Minister had refused to accept it.
What makes me so suspicious is the fact that this “resignation” has been kept a secret for so long. Not just from the docile people of these islands but also from Nationalist Party backbenchers! But, for argument’s sake, let us accept Lawrence Gonzi’s claim that Dr Gatt had indeed “offered” his resignation – which is different, in my view, than if he had “sent in” his resignation – and the Prime Minister had not agreed to accept Dr Gatt’s offer because, as Dr Gonzi is saying, the responsibility for the chaotic reform to the public transport system fell on the whole Cabinet and not just Dr Gatt. Well, then, the only logical conclusion is that the whole Cabinet resigns and not just Dr Gatt – minister of failures!
