Lufthansa Technik servicing Brussels Airlines fleet

Video: Mark Zammit Cordina

Lufthansa Technik has started servicing Brussels Airlines aircraft.

Five A330s are receiving heavy maintenance and will be refitted with a new cabin and other not so intensive maintenance will be carried out on two A319s.

Finance Minister Tonio Fenech visited Lufthansa Technik this afternoon where the company was working on the first of the aircraft

The job required dedicated technical people and had to involve Airbus, the original suppliers of the aircraft.

Brussels Airlines vice-president of communications Geert Sciot said the airline could have gone to several other companies on the market which all offered same service, including one in Asia, but opted for Malta because of the price quality ratio and its excellent reputation.

Mr Fenech thanked Lufthansa Technik and Brussels Airlines as well as all players involved, including the employees.

He said that Lufthansa's investment and its employees' committment, had helped the country weather the financial storm.

Lufthansa Technik employed 600 workers, most of them Maltese, making the facility the second largest in Europe in terms of maintenance.

You don't know how much you are not well informed my friend. Lufthnsa Technik Malta has much higher prices than Lufthansa Technik Sofia and Budapest, and Phillipines. In fact hourly rate is well over 40euros (this is what is charged no what is obviously paid to the employees which is much much much less).

It's the quality/price ratio which is really a winner for this company + its strategic position in the centre of the mediterranean!

Dear Mangion, Lufthansa is in Malta because Maltese students and workers have an MCST to go to. Yes the very same MCST that the PL closed down Only for the PN to open again as soon it came to govern again 1998 and the same MCST that under this government is embarking in 50 million euros expansion. Thanks to a Government that believes in the potential of its people that strives always to give Maltese workers gainful employment contributing towards the GDP of the Country. ; Unlike the PL who gave Maltese workers the famous " :Korpi tax- Xoghol" that contribute nothing to the National good. To add insult to the Maltese workers the PL even took away the right to strike from these workers.
