The nurses’ union is asking the government to explain why it has not yet employed 25 new graduates when there is a shortage of nursing staff in all hospitals.

The Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses said each day that passed by with a nurses’ shortage was detrimental to the care given to patients. The Health Ministry, however, said 19 and not 25 nurses who will be graduating over the next few days had applied for a job.

Before being employed they had to get registered with a nurses’ council and this process had just been completed.
