Inter and Juventus have been fined by Italian sports justice authorities for the behaviour of their fans during the pair’s Serie A clash on Saturday.
Inter have been hit with a 20,000-euro fine after their supporters unfurled a banner evoking memories of the 1985 Heysel stadium tragedy.
The banner read: “Low quality steel, nostaglia for Heysel.”
Thirty-nine Juventus fans died and around 600 were injured when a wall collapsed in the Heysel stadium ahead of the 1985 European Cup final between the Italians and Liverpool.
The fans were trying to escape a group of Liverpool fans who had breached a fence separating them from their Italian rivals.
The fine was imposed also for another banner targeting Juventus’s president Andrea Agnelli, which said “Death to Agnelli.”
Juventus were fined €10,000 for racist chanting from their fans in the second half of the game.
It is not the first time Juve have been fined for such chants by their fans. When striker Mario Balotelli, who is of Ghanaian origin, was at Inter he was regularly targeted by the Turin club’s fans.
Meanwhile, Milan midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng has been banned for two matches for insulting a match official while his coach Massimiliano Allegri was fined €5,000.
Boateng was sent off in Milan’s 3-2 win at Roma on Saturday night for lambasting a linesman, but only after he had already been substituted.
Later on Allegri was also dismissed for contesting a decision given against his team.
Ghana international Boateng will miss matches against Catania and Fiorentina.
