Safi became a parish in 1598 with the building of the present church commencing in 1726. The design is attributed to Ġwanni Zammit, however this is unconfirmed. This small church has a single bay façade with two Doric pilasters at each end. The single portal has a moulded architrave crowned by a broken curved pediment. Above the pediment is an oval glass window.
Above the entablature is a wide attic storey in which the frontal piece is set. There are two stone finials on each end. The cruciform transepts are of the same order and dimensions of the façade. Each has a lateral door with a curved pediment and a moulded window higher above. There are two spaced pilasters on each end, which on the right transept form the base of the single bell tower, accessible through a small door at ground floor. The pilasters on the left stop at roof level and have just two finials. There is also a small door at ground level.
The Malta Environment and Planning Authority scheduled the parish church as a Grade 1 monument on August 26 as per Government Notice 782.
