Gloria – Making Music Malta International Music Festival was recently held at San Lawrenz parish church.

The festival saw international soloists from the Isle of Man, Australia, China, and Malta and also the Northwest Festival Choir under the direction of John Bethell.

The Chorus Urbanus was invited to perform along the Norhwest Festival Choir, which gave eight other concerts in various venues around Malta.

One of the highlights of the concert was the premiere performance of John Galea’s Ego Sum Panis Vivus, which was specifically composed by Dr Galea for this concert.

The work was performed jointly by the two choirs with soprano Yvonne Galea and baritone Jonathan Alley singing the solo parts.

The second part of the concert was dedicated entirely to the North West Festival Choir.

It opened with excerpts from Giacomo Puccini’s Messa di Gloria with the participation of tenor Bo Wang and Alley.

The major highlight of the concert was Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria, a rather lengthy but engaging piece for choir and soloists.
