Marsaxlokk's crisis deepens after Balzan defeat

Balzan Youths continued to enhance their aspirations of mounting a strong challenge to avoid the drop after crushing a disappointing Marsaxlokk side 3-1 this afternoon.

The game came to life on 53 minutes when Balzan defender Farrugia profited from some poor positioning in the Marsaxlokk defence to storm in the area and fire a firm drive past Gauci.

Balzan could have struck again two minutes later when in a swift break Miguel Ciantar released Kris Bright who was clean through by the New Zealand striker was blocked by the onrushing Gauci. Ciantar was first to the rebound but the Balzan forward fired over in front of a gaping goal.

However, that was just a temporary reprieve for Marsaxlokk as four minutes later Ciantar sent a dangerous ball towards Bright who anticipated his marker to fire home.

Marsaxlokk were in complete disarray now and on 63 minutes when Pedrinho stole the ball from Carlos Campagnoli and tried to lob the ball over Gauci who managed to palm the ball away but in came Dylan Grima who rammed the ball into the net.

Marsaxlokk pulled a goal back on 79 minutes when Obinna Obiefule's low cross found Jean Paul Farrugia whose shot on the turn rolled past Balzan goalkeeper Matthew Camilleri.

Balzan striker Pedrinho was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
