A collection of poems and prose poems entitled Spring Rain/Winter Blues has been published.
Penned by Victor Fenech, the poems cover half a century of writing ranging from confessional poetry to socio-political themes
Spring Rain/Winter Blues, a Horizons publication, is 64 pages long and features two paintings of Malta by Pawl Carbonaro on the cover, as well as drawings by English artist Rigby Graham headlining the three sections of the book.
Fenech wrote all his early poetry in English. Most of his English poems have been published overseas in anthologies and literary magazines, including a number of broadsheets in the revival of Street Literature in Leicestershire.
Oliver Friggieri said of Fenech’s writing:
“His poetry is fundamentally a collage of different sensory experiences which range from direct autobiographical data to any other human activity which is potentially translatable into meaningful vignettes. Visual appeal, socio-political awareness and a fresh handling of modern language are fused into one organic whole to form a homogeneous corpus which is simultaneously inward-looking and socially involved.”
Fenech has been writing since the mid-1960s. He recently wrote his first novel, Ix-Xitwa ta’ wara s-Sjuf.
The book will be available at this year’s national book fair between November 4 and 9.
