A group of riders from Team Greens have just wrapped up their season with participation in the Sicilian Time Trial Championships which were held at the Pergusa track.
Etienne Bonello, the Malta time-trial champion, made his mark in Sicily as over 90 riders took to the start. He covered the 10km distance in 13:22 to finish second overall, 26 seconds adrift of race winner Sebastiano Marino, of Gruppo Rubino.
Bonello was the top rider in his category.
Jason Vella and Gerard Said also distinguished themselves as they placed fifth and eighth overall and first and second in their respective categories.
Marie Claire Aquilina enjoyed a positive comeback after a brief lay-off with a second place in the women’s time trial while Joseph Bonello finished a credible seventh in his category.
Team Greens official Charles Sammut said 2011 was an outstanding year for his riders.
“Surely, Pergusa was the best way to end another successful season,” he said.
“Having three riders in the top ten in these championships was no mean feat for our team. They’ve been working hard all year and results kept improving till the very end.”
This year, Team Greens riders won the road race and time trial titles, through Bonello, and the MTB Cross Country champion-ship thanks to Vella.
The trip to Sicily was made possible through the assistance of sponsors Greens Supermarket, BBB Bike Parts and Virtu Ferries.
