Malta intends to help Libya in border management, the establishment of a search and rescue capability and the management of airspace, AFM Commander Brig. Martin Xuereb said at a conference in Doha, Qatar .
The conference brought together the military chiefs of the Committee of Friends of Libya - Britain, France, Italy, Greece, Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Canada, the United States of America and Malta.
The conference was convened at the request of the Libyan Transitional National Council to discuss the way forward in post Gaddafi Libya.
During the conference NTC head Mousafa Jalil acknowledged the vital roles played by NATO and individual state,s including Malta, in assisting Libya gain victory over Gaddafi’s dictatorship.
He said the priorities of the NTC were to preventing the proliferation of weapons, providing oil sector security, conducting security sector reform, reintegrating former rebels into civil society, and implementing proper border management.
