'Hydro ambulance' presented to Gozitan rescue corps

A 'hydro ambulance' - a tender fitted out for ambulance services at sea - has been presented to the Gozo-based Emergency Rescue Response Corps (ERRC) by the Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono.

The tender had been funded through the Eco-Gozo scheme to help NGOs, the Ministry said.

It will be used for rescue services around Gozo and Comino.

Mrs Debono expressed her appreciation for the work done by the volunteers of the ERRC - set up in the wake of the disbandment of the Red Cross Gozo Branch.

The ERRC's work includes beach patrols, ambualnce services across Gozo and activities by GASART (the Gozo Aquatic Search and Rescue Team) which also received funds from the ministry.

The ERRC had also worked with fishermen to recover a large quantity of fishing nets from the bottom of the seabed and it is helping persons with disabiities to enjoy the experience of diving.

The volunteers will distribute a Beach Safety Guide Book in Gozo next summer.
