A civic centre and garden, offering 2,300 square metres of open recreational space in Swieqi, are in the pipeline, the project estimated to cost €800,000.
The centre would include a police station, the offices of the local council and a hall for community needs.
The project, which is being carried out in collaboration with the Swieqi local council, is expected to start once the permits are issued and the tender processes concluded. Work should be completed within a year.
Resources Minister George Pullicino said the application to the Malta Environment and Planning Authority had been filed.

While the project comes to fruition, how about somebody going around the Swieqi and Madliena areas and changing the burnt -out street bulbs. Some areas have been in complete darkness for a considerable lenght of time !

Certainly a project that will be welcomed by residents, however we already have 2 playgrounds in Swieqi and lots of buildings of all sorts. At first glance the above image comes across as playground and building again. Maybe different purpose for building but still building. Why not build the Civic Centre Underground and have more, much need, open spaces, lawn, deck chairs and create an area were people can just chill, read or lounge?
