An EU document leaked by the Financial Times stated that the cost of electricity will rise significantly around Europe.
The document also stated that the EU is aiming to cut emissions by 80 per cent by 2050. It has been said as well that Malta has a lot more to do in producing a cleaner energy, one which is according to the targets set.
The EU has to start producing 20 per cent of all its energy needs through renewable sources by 2020 while Malta’s target has been set at 10 per cent.
Malta is expected to invest heavily in solar energy and wind farming.
But as all this goes on, the Labour Party and Joseph Muscat keep promising that if the PL should be in government, they will substantially lower the electricity prices. “How?” Maybe he will subsidise the oil prices instead of investing in solar energy so the “multibillionaire” oil companies around the world can continue getting richer.
Dr Muscat is full of surprises – like visiting Benna, a company that he and Alfred Sant said would close down once we became members of the EU. Or going to Gozo and announcing that if Gozitans vote for PL, he has “controversial decisions to generate work in Gozo”. But of course he’ll open Pandora’s box after he is elected. For now the strategy is to keep procrastinating.
