Ismael: Former Bayern Munich star Valerien Ismael has begun his career as a coach after being put in charge of Hanover 96’s U-23 team. The 36-year-old Frenchman, who also played for Strasbourg, Crystal Palace and Werder Bremen before ending his career at Hanover in 2009, has a three-year contract.

Cameroon: Frenchman Denis Lavagne has been appointed the new coach of Cameroon. Reports said Lavagne would be assisted by Cameroonian coach Martin Ndto-ungou Mpile. Lavagne replaces Spaniard Javier Clement, who was sacked on Monday after failing to lead Cameroon to the 2012 Africa Cup finals.

Probe: The German football federation launched an investigation after rioting in Dortmund by Dynamo Dresden fans led to police officers being injured and more than a dozen arrests. Second division Dresden lost 2-0 at German league champions Borussia Dortmund late Tuesday in the second round of the German cup, but violent scenes marred the game. Two police officers were injured and 15 fans were arrested.

Dzodic: Montpellier defender Nenad Dzodic has decided to retire following an ongoing battle with a thigh injury. The 34-year-old has spent 12 years with the Ligue 1 club over two spells between 1997-2004 when he left for Ajaccio before returning three years later. The former captain played for Montpellier 272 times.

Hutton: Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton is struggling to be fit for Saturday’s trip to Sunderland because of the facial injury suffered during the home setback against West Brom. Hutton required seven stitches after a clash with team-mate Charles N’Zogbia and had to be substituted before half-time of the 2-1 defeat. The wound is immediately above the eye and affecting his vision.

Krasic: Reports in Germany say Borussia Dortmund are keen to sign Milos Krasic on loan from Juventus in the January transfer window. Krasic’s future in Turin is in doubt after an inconsistent start to the season. The Serbia mid-fielder has also been linked with Manchester United and Chelsea. Krasic joined Juve from CSKA Moscow in 2010 for €15m.
