Kerċem Ajax are the only team from Division Two to make it to the quarter-finals of the BOV Gozo Cup after last weekend’s matches from the preliminary round. The last-eight ties will be played at the Sannat Ground this weekend.

Holders Nadur Youngsters earned a bye to the last eight. On Saturday, they face Xewkija Tigers who struggled to knock out Division Two side Qala Saints.

The game was decided with a goal scored seconds from half-time by Chris Camilleri.

Sannat Lions also enter the fray in the quarter-finals where they have been paired with SK Victoria Wanderers.

The Wanderers trounced Żeb-buġ Rovers 4-0, all goals coming in the opening half through Edinson Sanchez Estrada, Kenneth Mercieca and a Steve Dimech brace.

Kerċem had the better of Munxar Falcons to set up a quarter-final clash with Għajnsielem.

Their two goals were scored after the break by Jean Paul Mizzi and Malcolm Vella.

Għajnsielem cruised to an 8-0 win over St Lawrence Spurs.

Rivellino Petriaggi was the protagonist in this handsome victory after scoring five goals.

Manwel Cordina added two goals and Jonathan Grech scored the other for the winners.

The most interesting match of the preliminary round was the derby between Oratory Youths, of Division Two, and Victoria Hotspurs. The latter won 4-2 after extra time.

The Hotspurs opened a two-goal lead, following goals from Oliver Farrugia and Dylan Bellotti, but Oratory equalised after the break with a brace from veteran Dione Lautier, the second from a penalty, eight minutes from time.

Victoria Hotspurs were reduced to 10 men in that penalty action but still managed to clinch qualification with two other Bellotti goals.

The Hotspurs play Xagħra United on Sunday after the Blues crushed Għarb Rangers 9-1.

This was the largest win in GFA competitions so far this season as Xagħra scored five of their goals in the final 13 minutes of the match.

Thiago Dos Santos hit a hat-trick while Ejo Nkwocha scored twice. The other goals came from Emanuel Scerri, Kevin Farrugia, Daniel Bartolo and Joseph Xerri.

Philip Bajada got Għarb’s consolation goal.
