Former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and his son Muntassim were buried last night in a secret location in the Libyan desert, the National Transitional Council said today.

Cars apparently carrying the corpse of the former strongman and his son were seen late yesterday leaving the area of the freezer where the two had been put on public display.

Muammar Gaddafi was captured by NTC forces in Sirte on Thursday and died shortly afterwards.

Libya has agreed to hold an investigation of his death after international concern that he was lynched after being captured.
