A motorist who crashed in a police car and tried to drive off was arrested in Marsa this morning.

The police car was at the scene of a traffic accident in Sir Paul Boffa Avenue at about 6.30 a.m.

At one time the other car approached from the direction of Malta Shipbuilding, skidded and crashed into the police car, which is used by Paola police.

The driver then reversed and tried to drive off, but a traffic policemen managed to open his door and stopped him, in what an eyewitness said was ‘a scene from a movie’. The traffic policeman was quickly assisted by other policemen.

All three young men in the car were arrested and questioned.

The driver did not have a driver’s licence and he was driving under the influence of alcohol. The car was also not licensed and was not covered by insurance.
