Following a successful trial earlier this year of new technology that uses fingerprint identification to monitor all music transmitted in Malta, PRS for Music is urging members to upload their recordings into a new system. This data, along with broadcaster-submitted records, will be used in the royalty collection process as from November .

For this reason, PRS for Music has been urging Maltese members to complete the uploading of recordings of their songs into the system. Music broadcast on Maltese radio and TV stations can then be accurately tracked. Members must upload their new recordings before they release their songs.

Details of how to upload music is available on the PRS for Music website. Maltese member representative Martin Pursey is also available to assist members with the process. He can be reached by e-mail at martin.pursey@prsformusic.com or tel. on 2766 0110.

The Beta test of the system has been tracking all licensed radio and TV stations in Malta, providing accurate logs of music usage.

These will now be cross-referenced automatically to the recordings uploaded by Maltese members in the BMAT system, enabling further accuracy in royalty payments.
