The Muslim community in Malta welcomed the end of Gaddafi's regime when they met at the Mosque for Friday prayers this afternoon.

During his sermon, Imam Mohammed Elsadi said thanked the Maltese government for its role during the Libyan crisis and said:

"We congratulate our brothers and sisters who fought for dignity against oppression and corruption...

"It's the end of an era of dictatorship and the start of an era of security, the beginning of an era of democracy, the end of an era of fear."

The community than united in prayer.
