A delivery man has been remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to breaking down the door of his girlfriend mother's house and going in armed with a knife.

Father of four Kenneth Cassar, 31, of Marsascala, committed the alleged crime following a fight with his girlfriend on Wednesday.

Police Inspector Jurgen Vella said it was evident from Mr Cassar's criminal record these incidents were being repeated and he also feared a repeat if the accused was given bail.

Defence lawyer Chris Cardona argued that Mr Cassar needed to be granted bail to be able to pay maintenance for his children, aged between one and 11.

Mr Cassar pleaded not guilty to damaging the door, threatening four members of his girlfriend's family, illegally carrying a knife and breaching the peace.
