Going strong at 80

To be strong at 20 is expected – your body is still quite new and the genes are on your side. To be strong at 50 may require some maintenance but it’s doable. But to be strong at 80 is no mean feat.

In M magazine, out tomorrow with The Times, George Cini meets Joe “Powerful” Falzon, a former strongman who, among other feats, managed to pull a Boeing 727 aircraft for 30 feet, push a 21-ton train, bend metal rods, crush stones and sleep on broken glass. He may now be 80 years old but he is still a force to be reckoned with.

In another life-affirming interview, M meets Captain Tom Harris who, in 2009, lost a leg in an explosion in Afghanistan. But that did not stop him from co-founding the Race2Recovery team with other amputees to raise money for charity. The team is planning to be the first amputees to race in the Dakar Rally.

M also takes a look at Marquis Nicholas de Piro’s photo album, interviews world-acclaimed photographer Stanislas Guigui and goes on stage with actor Alan Montanaro and his wife Gaby.

M magazine is designed by MediaMaker Limited and printed by Progress Press Limited, both members of the Allied Group. Its editor is Stanley Borg.
