A Libyan who was caught in possession of heroin was yesterday jailed for eight months after she admitted to relapsing and committing the crime during the operative period of a suspended jail term.

Bushra Triganza, 42, nee Hisnawi originally from Tripoli but residing in Paola, was jailed after Magistrate Marseann Farrugia noted that she had been given many chances to reform but failed to do so.

In this latest case she was found in possession of the drug on June 13, 2009 and admitted to having abused drugs over the past five years, which meant that she had committed a crime during the operative period of a suspended jail term handed down in 2004.

She was jailed for two months over the heroin possession case and the court also brought into effect the suspended jail term bringing the total time of imprisonment to eight months.

Police Inspector Jesmond Borg prosecuted.
