Parliament yesterday unanimously approved two motions dealing with nuclear material. The first, moved by the Prime Minister, authorises the government to accede to the Convention of Basel.

The second motion, moved by Health Minister Joseph Cassar, ratifies an amendment to the Convention on Physical Protection of Nuclear Material. It provides for measures to protect against nuclear terrorism.

Opposition MPs Leo Brincat and Marie Louise Coleiro Preca took part in the debate.
