A concert of sacred music was held in aid of the Malta Hospice Movement at St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta. The New Choral Singers together with the Kammerkoret Nesodden/Frogn from Norway took part.

The theme this year was Many Diseases, Many Lives, Many Voices, reminding us of the care the Hospice provides at a time when there is no cure. It offers dignity to the patient and support to their surrounding families at a most challenging time, all free of charge.

Those in attendance were treated to a fantastic melodious programme of a variety of sacred music, including some sung in Norwegian. The first part was performed by the visiting choir, followed by our very own New Choral Singers, which both excelled and blended into the amazing surroundings of the magnificent building. The audience was tru;ly mesmerised by the choice of music and singing.

Thanks have to go to the Norwegian choir, who travelled to Malta to perform without any cost to the Hospice Movement, as well as to the New Choral Singers without, of course, forgetting the young organist Timothy James Guntrip, who hails from Kent but now holds the role of organist in two local churches.

All this would not have been possible without the kindness of the St John’s Co-Cathedral Foundation and the Cathedral Chapter to use the co-cathedral.

A voluntary closing collection was made to aid the Malta Hospice Movement, which depends on the generosity of the public to be able to offer such a commendable worthwhile service.
