A 42-year-old woman has pleaded not guilty to stealing pills and medicine from the Mater Dei Pharmacy.

Evelyn Schembri of Sta Venera was also charged with handling stolen property and with stealing the pills to sell them or give them away.

Sources close to the case said hundreds of pills were estimated to have been stolen.

The sources said it was more than likely that Ms Schembri was giving the pills to people in need.

The case continues next month.
